Sijing Chen is a first year PhD student working on Visual Art at Birmingham City University. During her undergraduate study, she acquired a variety of skills in relation to multimedia and animation. She turned to focus more on 3D Design and Visualisation in her Masters course. Those years of study have enabled her to lay stress on the significance of imagination and creative thinking.
Sijing’s PhD research is aimed to reassess the meaning of the monster visual culture in twentieth-century China and analyse the transformation of its role in social, political, religious contexts. It seeks to make a contribution to the reinterpretation of the imagery of monster which presents artistic imagination in contemporary visual art, and defining the particular way of creative thinking in developing of monster imagery based on visual practice.
